Mr Liau’s private practice – focused expertise in gallbladder surgery

His surgical focus in private practice is on the management of gallbladder disease, particularly gallstones and related conditions. This is because private hospital settings are well suited to support low-risk, efficient procedures like laparoscopic cholecystectomy, with the necessary infrastructure for safe same-day or overnight care.

Private surgeries provided by Mr Liau:

This keyhole surgery allows the gallbladder to be removed with minimal disruption and includes imaging of the bile duct to check for stones or abnormalities.

Imaging of bile duct (cholangiogram) requires a procedure to inject dye agent via a catheter into the bile duct. At times, due to anatomical consideration or risk of complication, imaging of the bile duct may not be performed if it is safe to do so.
During the keyhole surgery, if Mr Liau feels it is safest for the surgery to be done with an open wound instead, he will proceed accordingly to ensure you get the best possible outcome. This scenario is usually due to the unexpected complexity to the gallbladder disease (e.g. extensive inflammation or adhesions/scarring making keyhole surgical approach not safe) or any concern of a surgical complication.

‘The gallbladder is located near the liver and bile ducts. If inflammation, scarring, or anatomical variation is present, surgery can become more challenging. As a HPB surgeon experienced in managing complex anatomy, I have the expertise to navigate and manage these situations safely and effectively.’
